Modifying examination formats

General information about examinations

  • You can find general information from the Examination Office about failed exams not counting as attempts as well as de-registering from examinations on the page of the Examination Office
  • You can find more information in the following pages from TU Berlin Crisis Committee and from the office of student affairs.
  • If you would like to take an exam during the pandemic but are at risk or in unavoidable contact with someone at risk according to the RKI criteria (whether professionally or privately), you may submit a Request to Change the Method of Examination (forms differ based on degree program). Please make sure to submit your request early to allow sufficient time for processing.

Steps to change the method of examination

1. Complete the form “Request to Change the Method of Examination”

You can find the request form on the website of your degree program examination board or your faculty website. Please complete the form - make sure to include the reason for your request as well as potential alternative methods of examination. The scope of the assessed work or examination must be the same. You must also submit supporting documentation.

2. Supporting documentation

Please submit documentation clearly stating that you are either at risk or in contact with someone at risk according to the RKI criteria (professionally or privately). 

Please black out any personal data or information not relevant to your request.

Examples of documents include:

  • A medical certificate from your doctor
  • Proof that you work in nursing or a similar field, e.g. as a personal assistant
  • Proof of a family member requiring care, e.g. certificate from the insurance company stating the level of care required as well as proof that you live in the same household
  • Proof that someone at risk lives in your household, e.g. a medical certificate for a preexisting condition  

The University reserves the right to request further documentation.

3. Send the request to your examiner

Send the completed form to your examiner from your TU email account. In your email, ask the examiner to forward your request to the relevant examination board (include the contact information) after they have reviewed your request as well as to inform you of further steps taken or to return the processed request to you. 

Please note: Please CC your examination team in your email so that they are aware of your request.

4. Inform the examination board

After you have sent all your examiners your request(s), please email your examination board (from your TU account) and inform them of your request(s) even if you are still waiting for a reply from your examiner(s). Include your supporting documentation (such as a medical certificate). Make sure to also include the following information in your email:

  • Your matriculation number
  • Reason for your request and supporting documents
  • Exam name(s)
  • Date of examination(s) (if known)
  • Examiner name(s)
  • The proposed alternative examination format for each individual exam

5. Decision about your request

You will be informed of the examination board’s decision. Please send this decision to your relevant examination team

You will then complete the approved examinations/assessments.
