Accessibility

Technische Universität Berlin's main campus is located in the borough of Charottenburg-Wilmersdorf at Ernst-Reuter-Platz and either side of Straße des 17. Juni. The campus is home to the Main Building, the Architecture, Chemistry and Mathematics Buildings, the University Library, the main studierendenWERK Berlin canteen, numerous student cafés and rooms of Inis for university politics.

This page provides directions to the University and information regarding accessible parking spaces, a list of quiet rooms and accessible toilets rooms. Furthermore, selected information on buildings and lecture halls is stored on the individual building pages, which can be selected via the "A-Z Search". Among other things, information about the technical equipment of the lecture halls, the shortest and most accessible routes as well as seats for people with hearing and visual impairments are recorded there. The TU Berlin is committed to making the university accessible. Many buildings have already been converted and further adaptations will follow.

Since this year we have been updating our list with information on individual buildings and rooms, which is why our website is unfortunately still incomplete. Our goal is to gradually be able to offer the existing information on this new website by the end of 2023. Until then, you are welcome to contact our team if you have any questions about access to the buildings and lecture halls. You can also check the virtual campus tour (so far only in German) for a first impression of the TU campus.

Public transport connections

The main campus Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf can be reached by metro (Ernst-Reuter-Platz, no elevator yet), S-Bahn (Zoologischer Garten and Tiergarten) and accessible bus X9, M45 and 245 (Steinplatz, Ernst-Reuter-Platz, Marchstraße). Please note that there are also buildings on the Campus Wedding, TU Campus EUREF as well as Campus Dahlem. You can find directions on the website about the TU Berlin campuses and offices.

For current timetables, check www.bvg.de under the keyword: “Travel information” and then “Extended Search – barrier free access”. We recommend to check if there is an elevator out of service before you start your journey. You can use, for example, the page brokenlifts.org, a project that bundles the information of VBB, DB and BVG.

Accessible Parking Spaces

Along the Straße des 17. Juni there is the possibility to park free of charge. However, if you need accessible parking spaces on the Campus Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, you can find an overview of parking spaces for people with walking disabilities in the PDF. Since these are located on the grounds of the TU Berlin, please contact our team to coordinate access authorization.

Accessible Toilets Rooms

There are accessible toilet rooms on the main campus of the Technical University of Berlin. If you want to get a quick overview, use the PDF "Listing accessible toilet rooms and their locking mechanism". In 14 buildings the toilet rooms are accessible without a key. In some, the Euro-Key or a key for TU Berlin employees is used.

Quiet Rooms

At TU Berlin, we do not have any rooms that are used exclusively as quiet rooms. First aid rooms as well as parent-child rooms can be used as quiet rooms. You can find a list of available quiet rooms under "Q" in the A-Z search on this page.

Overview buildings and lecture halls

Our goal is to be able to offer the existing information on the buildings and lecture halls gradually on this new website by the end of 2023. Until then, please feel free to contact our team with any questions regarding access to the buildings and lecture halls.

We recommend exploring your faculty and institutes, lecture halls and campus in person right at the beginning of your studies. It makes a difference whether you get information on the Internet or in brochures or find out for yourself how far away the buildings are and how much time you need to get from lecture hall to lecture hall. You can also arrange an appointment with the representative of students with disabilities and chronic illnesses that includes a campus tour.

Additionally, you can also find out here before the semester whether your lecture halls are accessible, what kind of technical equipment is available, and how to best access the room if there is a special entrance for wheelchair users. Should it happen that the room in which your lecture is taking place is not accessible due to steps, please contact our team. We will check the conditions and take care of finding an alternative accessible room.

Assessing the accessibility of the University’s buildings and lecture halls is an extensive undertaking.

If you notice that the information has changed or if lecture halls are missing, please let us know. We are happy to receive feedback, corrections and additions. Feel free to send us an email. You can find the contact details on our home page on the right side of the page.
